Review of all the action from Cliffe Park...

3 Great Harwood
10 1st XI

Cliffe Park

TCC travelled to Great Harwood full of confidence after a convincing win on the seaside against St Annes, in our only friendly a week earlier.

With the threat of rain around throughout the day, skipper Andrew Sutcliffe won the toss and asked Great Harwood to bat first. The returning Bilal Abbas took the new ball and struck early, with Pro Chris Schofield taking the catch at 2nd slip. It wasn't the best of starts as a bowling unit but Matt Collins struck, this time Elliot GIlford taking a simple catch at short cover.

Great Harwood recovered though, reaching 53-2. Hamza Ali (2-28) broke the partnership, as Graham Lalor (1-23) took the crucial wicket of Ashen Silva (Pro), with Kristian Garland taking a sharp catch up to the stumps. The rain fell after 28 overs resulting in the loss of 14 overs.

We resumed after the rain break as Abbas took another couple of wickets, finishing with a career best 3-22, as Great Harwood closed on 128-7 off 36 overs.

Chasing 141 (Duckworth Lewis adjusted total) off 36 overs, openers Benjamin Pearson and Elliott Gilford needed to set the foundations for a solid run chase. However, Gilford fell early lbw for 1. Ben Sutcliffe (10) was then trapped in front with the score 53-2 and Pro Chris Schofield (5) followed shortly after.

Benjamin Pearson passed 50 as he and Kristian Garland (30) kept the scoreboard ticking over, putting on a much needed partnership of 62 that took TCC closer to their target.

When opener Benjamin Pearson fell for 73, TCC lost of a couple of wickets, however Graham Lalor (4*) finished the job in the last over, hitting his first delivery to the boundary, to seal a 10 point victory for TCC.

A good, but rusty, start for the 1st XI!

Skipper Andrew Sutcliffe reflects: " Yesterday was a tough game. It’s always good to win away from home, especially at a new ground as you never know how they play.

We chose to bowl and we bowled inconsistently for the first 15 overs until Noisy (G Lalor) came in to the attack and removed the professional and gave us some control. The run rate never got away from us but we did not bowl at our best.

In the second innings we played really well as a batting unit. We needed one of the top four to bat through and Benjy did that excellently on a tough wicket, with support from Garland who scored a solid 30. The required run rate for the last 10 overs was over 5 an over so to get over the line was great.

We can play better but scoring 140 amateur runs to chase a total down in 36 overs in tough conditions is a great start to the season and gives us confidence for next weeks big game against Burnley."

Next week, we host Burnley @ HOME. 1pm start. Come on down and cheer the boys on! #TCCFamily
