TCC Start The 2018 Season With Dominant Display

We record a victory by the seaside...

0 St Annes
12 1st XI

Vernon Road

Winning the toss and electing to bowl, TCC made an early inroad with Matt Collins taking our first (finishing with figures of 3-12) with a low catch at mid-off from Ben Sutcliffe.  Returning to TCC Bilal Abbas kept it tight at the other end, as we reduced St Anne's to 31/5. Professional Chris Schofield removed his opposing Pro, assisted by keeper Tom Stansfield taking a sharp catch up to the stumps. Schofield continued to build pressure with Graham Lalor probing his usual line and length in the middle overs collecting 2-28. This pressure led to a run-out from B Abbas, as skipper Andrew Sutcliffe bowled late on in the innings, collecting 2-16 as we dismissed St Anne's for 105.

Newly promoted opener Elliot Gilford confidently got us off to the start we needed in a low run chase, making a solid start of 20. Ben Sutcliffe controlled the tempo of our chase with a controlled 27, paving the way for the Abbas brothers (Bilal 24* & Kai 4* ) to see us home and win by 5 wickets on the seaside.

Skipper Andrew Sutcliffe reflects: "Yesterday was a good workout. Everyone either had a bowl or got to bat. We went with twelve and rotated the fielders to a couple of people’s delight. We gave the new ball to Billy and he bowled with very good control up front and Matt Collins picked up from last September as he made the ball talk.

On the batting front Gilly started his new role as an opening batter with a decent start on a tricky wicket and Dudds did what he does best and was our rock in the run chase. Billy came in late on and hit a few quick boundaries, which was good to see him have a good all round game on his return to the club. The pro looked quality yesterday with the ball and he settled in very well with the lads and we are looking forward to the season.

St Anne’s is a great ground, they are great hosts and we hope to go back next year."

Our league campaign gets underway next Sunday (22nd) as we travel to Great Harwood, 1pm Start. Come on over and support the boys.
